Carlos Ruiz Zafón is today one of the best known authors of world literature and the most widely read Spanish writer internationally after Cervantes. He began his career in 1993 with a series of books for children and teenagers, including "The Prince of the Mist" (see Trilogy of the Mist).
The shadow of the wind is the first volume of the series The cemetery of forgotten books, an adult fiction series that will consecrate it internationally. Released in 2001 in Spain, it has become a real literary phenomenon: 8 million copies sold worldwide and translated into more than 36 languages. Among the numerous international awards, the Barry Prize for the best debut novel in 2005.
The fourth book, the last of the series The cemetery of forgotten books, was released in Italian in 2016 "The labyrinth of spirits".
Carlos Ruiz Zafón dies in Los Angeles on June 19, 2020 at the age of 55.
