Carlos Ruiz Zafón is today one of the best known authors of world literature and the most widely read Spanish writer internationally after Cervantes. He began his career in 1993 with a series of books for children and teenagers, including "The Prince of the Mist" (see Trilogy of the Mist).

The shadow of the wind is the first volume of the series The cemetery of forgotten books, an adult fiction series that will consecrate it internationally. Released in 2001 in Spain, it has become a real literary phenomenon: 8 million copies sold worldwide and translated into more than 36 languages. Among the numerous international awards, the Barry Prize for the best debut novel in 2005.

The fourth book, the last of the series The cemetery of forgotten books, was released in Italian in 2016 "The labyrinth of spirits".

Carlos Ruiz Zafón dies in Los Angeles on June 19, 2020 at the age of 55.

The shadow of the wind is an exceptional narrative whose reading and intrigues keep readers attached and focused to the last page. All the events are intertwined with the story of a decadent post-civil war Barcelona with often dark tones.

In the dawn of 1945, a boy, Daniel, the protagonist, was taken by his father to a mysterious place in the heart of the old city: the Cemetery of the forgotten books.
There, Daniel finds a book that changes the course of his life and drags him into a labyrinth of intrigue and secrets linked to the figure of Julián Carax, the author of that book.

The Shadow of the Wind is a literary mystery set in Barcelona in the first half of the 20th century, from the last splendors of modernism to the darkness of the post-war period.

The book is above all a tragic love story that with great narrative power, the author exposes in an unforgettable story about the secrets of the heart and the spell of the books.
